Jacques Jangoux’s key concerns are the preservation of cultural and natural diversity. He hopes that his photography, used mainly in educational media, will contribute toward that goal. He specializes in well-documented images of native cultures and nature in tropical countries (mostly Latin America and Africa). His photographs are identified with scientific names whenever relevant and possible, consulting a specialist if necessary; his research involves extensive reading (which can be made available to clients). The caption is an integral part of his images, as the cultural (or ecological) context is not always visually apparent. Jacque’s photographs are intended to be documents above being art. He attempts to make his images culturally neutral, showing everyday life exempt from Western exoticism and to exclude his presence from the photograph. He tends to stay a long time in a natural habitat until he understands it, or with people until he is perceived as part of their daily life.
